Custom Designs: Your Options and Why We Charge a Design Fee

Whether you’re looking for a special shape, a business logo or a design created exclusively for you, we have different options to suit your needs.

Why is there a design fee?

There’s a little more behind a custom cutter or stamp than simply sending an image to the printer.

Each new design takes time to prepare. Some take around 30 minutes, while more detailed designs can take two to three hours. Some images also need to be redrawn before they can be imported into our design programme and turned into a printable cutter or stamp.

The design fee contributes towards this work, including preparing the artwork and creating your mock-up for approval.

For perspective, New Zealand’s adult minimum wage is $23.95 per hour. Our flat design fee is $10, rather than an hourly charge, to help keep custom designs affordable.

The design fee covers the design work. The cutter or stamp cost is also included in the price shown on your chosen listing.

Which custom option should I choose?

Custom Design – Standard / Non-Exclusive

Ideal for a custom cutter and stamp that doesn’t need to remain exclusive to you.

Chickadee 3D Design may add the completed design to our website and design library for other customers to purchase one month after your purchase. Offering the design to others helps us recover some of the time spent creating it.

Custom Design – Exclusive

For customers who want a design reserved for their own use or their business.

Your completed design will not be added to our website or design library, sold to another customer, or made for anyone else. Please choose this option when exclusivity is important to you.

Custom Business Logo Stamp

Turn your business logo into a stamp for branded cookies, client gifts, launches and events.

Your logo design is kept on file for future orders and will not be sold to other customers. If you order another size using the same design, you’ll only pay for the new stamp.

Ready to bring your idea to life?

Send your drawing, reference photos or idea to info@chickadee3ddesign.co.nz, along with your preferred size and whether you need a cutter, stamp or both.

Design work begins once payment and all required information have been received. You’ll receive a mock-up by email, and printing will only begin once you’ve approved the design.

The design fee is non-refundable once design work has started.
